Sarah Rooney is an attorney and legal policy expert who lobbies the legislative and executive branch on consumer and plaintiff-side legal issues. Previously, Ms. Rooney has worked on policy issues at both the Department of Labor and the Federal Communications Commission.
Most recently, Ms. Rooney was a long time lobbyist for the American Association for Justice.
-Led successful advocacy efforts to update cosmetic regulation for the first time in over 50 years by enacting the Modernization of Cosmetics Regulations Act. This legislation gave the FDA additional tools to ensure cosmetic products are safe and also established requirements for testing cosmetics containing talc for the presence of asbestos thereby protecting consumers from asbestos-related cancers
-Led a successful campaign to prevent anti-consumer limitations on damages in COVID-19 relief legislation.
– Designed and executed a successful regulatory advocacy campaign to ban forced arbitration clauses in nursing home admission contracts.
-Led a successful legislative campaign to pass the SMART Act (the Strengthening Medicare and Repaying Taxpayers Act) to improve the Medicare Secondary Payer reimbursement process
