David Black is a trial attorney with over 40 years of experience representing a diverse array of clients in product liability, commercial, and intellectual property lawsuits. Mr. Black has successfully represented American and foreign plaintiffs in complex litigation, including high-stakes class actions and complex multidistrict litigation, recovering hundreds of millions of dollars for his clients in both settlements and judgments. A nationally recognized expert in the use of scientific evidence at trial, Mr. Black is one of only two practicing attorneys to have authored a portion of the third edition of the Reference Manual on Scientific Evidence.
Mr. Black’s work on behalf of his clients includes:
- the highest jury verdicts in Colorado in 2002 and 2003 in trials against Goodyear involving defective Entran II hose;
- an over $300 million settlement of the Entran II hose class action litigation in 2004;
- a multimillion dollar verdict for a homeowner in a 2005 Entran II jury trial;
- multimillion dollar jury verdicts in agricultural chemical litigation for farmers against DuPont;
- millions of dollars of settlements of agricultural chemical litigation for farmers in the United States, Australia and Costa Rica against DuPont;
- settlements for manufacturers of polybutylene plumbing systems of national litigation against major chemical company manufacturers of the materials comprising elements of the systems;
- a bi-national class settlement for a Fortune 5 company of litigation involving a resin used for furnace venting;
- a number of multimillion dollar settlements of claims against a Fortune 50 company involving industrial products utilizing nuclear materials;
- Judgments and settlements in patent, trade secret, copyright and trademarks matters on behalf of plaintiffs asserting their intellectual property rights;
- Litigation on behalf of the state of Louisiana against German and Chinese government affiliated entities involving defective Chinese manufactured drywall.
Mr. Black resides and is admitted to practice in Colorado, as well as in many federal district and appellate courts across the country. He graduated magna cum laude from St. Olaf College and earned his J. D. from the University of Illinois College of Law.
