BRENDAN THOMPSON joined Cuneo Gilbert & LaDuca, LLP as a lawyer in 2008. Throughout his career, he has been a lawyer for consumers.
Cases Mr. Thompson has worked on while at the firm include:
- Melillo, et al. v. Building Products of Canada, 12-cv-16 (D. VE) (concerning alleged defective organic roof shingles) (nationwide settlement).
- Minor, et al. v. Congoleum (D. N.J.) (concerning alleged defective flooring products and refusals to honor warranties) (nationwide settlement).
- In re: Building Materials Corp. of America (D.S.C.) (concerning alleged defective fiberglass roof shingles) (nationwide settlement).
- In re Kitec Plumbing Systems (N.D. of Tex.) (concerning alleged defective PEX plumbing systems) (nationwide settlement of $125 million).
- In re: IKO Manufacturing (C.D. of Il.) (concerning alleged defective organic roof shingles) (nationwide settlement).
In December 2017, Mr. Thompson was appointed co-lead counsel in Gold, et al. v. Lumber Liquidators, Inc., 323 F.R.D. 280 (N.D. Cal. 2017). The case concerns Morning Star bamboo flooring which Plaintiffs allege prematurely fails when installed in homes. Plaintiffs successfully defended against motions to dismiss, Daubert motions, a motion for summary judgment, and a transfer of venue motion. The parties exchanged nearly one million pages of discovery and engaged in approximately twenty fact and expert depositions in the case. Plaintiffs certified six state classes and defeated a subsequent Rule 23(f) petition. The Court approved the Parties’ settlement on October 22, 2020 which provides for a $14 million common cash fund and $16 million in vouchers to be paid by Lumber Liquidators.

- Jones, et al. v. Charlotte Pipe and Foundry Company and Lubrizol Advanced Materials, Inc., 20-cv-00511 (N.D. Ohio) (concerning alleged defective chlorinated polyvinyl chloride (“CPVC”) pipe and fitting plumbing systems sold under the brand name FlowGuard Gold®).
- Hawes, et al. v. Macy’s West Stores, Inc., No. 17-cv-00754 (S.D. Ohio) (concerning alleged false thread counts (as counted under industry standard ASTM 3775) in sheets and pillowcases).
- In Re: Family Dollar Stores, Inc., Pest Infestation Litigation (MDL 3032) (alleges that various products sold at Family Dollar stores located in the states of Tennessee, Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Missouri, and Mississippi, pose health and safety risks as the result of being shelved in Family Dollar’s West Memphis, Arkansas distribution facility which was determined by the FDA in early 2022 to contain live and dead rodents, “putrid odor” and droppings “too numerous to count”).
Mr. Thompson’s appellate work includes briefing before the Third and Ninth Circuits. See Wright v. Owens Corning, 679 F.3d 101, 109 (3d Cir. 2012), cert. denied, 133 S. Ct. 1239 (2013).
In 2009, Mr. Thompson received a diploma from the National Institute for Trial Advocacy (“NITA”).
During his legal studies, Mr. Thompson worked as a Student Intern for Congressman Brian Higgins (NY); as a Student Law Clerk for the Honorable LeRoy F. Millette, Jr. at the Circuit Court for the 31st Judicial Circuit of Virginia; and as a Student Law Clerk at the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office for Prince William County, Virginia.
Mr. Thompson has provided lunches to the homeless as a volunteer with Bethesda Cares, donated to Esperanca, participated in Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy functions, and assisted the Wood Acres Neighborhood with events and activities. He has also spent time mentoring first year students enrolled in the University of Baltimore School of Law’s 1L Mentor Program.
In 2022, Mr. Thompson published an article in the James Joyce Quarterly (Vol. 59) titled “James Henry: The Translator of Ulysses into Irish”.
